Elementary Education Major
Playing Division I basketball has been my goal since fifth grade. But when it came time to look at schools, I didn’t just look at the basketball program—I wanted the entire college experience. And at Drake, the puzzle pieces really fit. I simply couldn’t see myself anywhere else.
Being a Bulldog is an important part of my identity. I feel blessed to wear that blue and white jersey as part of the basketball team. Seeing growth in teammates and myself is a rich experience, and to face challenge and triumph together is incredibly meaningful. I’ll never forget the excitement of beating Northern Iowa on their home court.
I love my Drake athletics family. Our coaches support us as well-rounded student-athletes with interests off the court and encourage us to be involved on campus and in the community. I volunteer teaching English to refugees in Des Moines, and I’m glad to be part of their process transitioning to the United States. I’ve also spent many hours in classrooms gaining hands-on experience, and building relationships with students and mentor teachers is preparing me to be an influential educator someday.
Drake students are doing something every day. Keep up with a few of them through their blogs.
