There's no single reason to come to Drake; what brings you to the University might not be what keeps you here. I’ve found 100 reasons to stay, including the Peer Mentor/Academic Consultant (PMAC) program.
As a PMAC, I’m one of the first upperclassmen who new first-years meet. My job is to get them to break through the awkwardness of that first weekend and to help them love Drake throughout their first semester. I enjoy watching them grow, helping them create their own experience, or just supporting them through an all-nighter with a cup of coffee.
I saw the PMAC program as something I could be good at—I'm not particularly energetic or outgoing but wanted to give it a shot. I found myself in a group of students who were beyond dedicated and involved. They’ve driven me to become more engaged and think about what I can do for my University and community.
One of my favorite memories from my time at Drake is move-in day. I know my own move-in day was one of the most emotionally crazy days of my life, and seeing it from the other side as a PMAC—seeing how excited everyone was to be here—really brought it full circle.
Drake students are doing something every day. Keep up with a few of them through their blogs.
