As I graduate from Drake, I’m taking so much with me, from wonderful memories of times with friends to the confidence I’ve developed during my time as a college student. Here are just a few of the lessons and experiences that will stick with me:
Between faculty, friends, and alumnae from my sorority, the connections I’ve made at Drake have helped me in more ways than I can count. One of the things I love the most about Drake is how much the professors care and that they’re willing to go out on a limb for you. I’ve gotten to know professors on a personal level, and they’ve really pushed me to try new things and stretch myself.
When I first came to Drake, I was shy, but during my time here I’ve found my voice and my confidence. Through the LEAD concentration, I discovered that making a change on your campus or in the community is possible. For example, I helped start One Voice, a student organization focused on advocating for and educating about LGBTQ rights and issues.
Thanks to my connections and education, I’ve had many valuable internships and hands-on experiences at places like Workiva, Drake’s Office of University Communications, Tone Spices, and Atlantic Bottling. With each internship, I learned a little more about what I wanted to do and expanded my skills in areas like social media, search engine optimization, and copywriting.
All of these lessons and experiences have guided me to the next chapter in my life—a new job at Trilix Group here in Des Moines!
