If I had to choose one word to describe my Drake experience, it would be “unexpected.” I’ve been involved with so much that I hadn’t even anticipated being an option.
I’ve conducted research alongside faculty, been an active member of the Honors Program, volunteered around the community, and held an internship with a local organization. Most recently, I traveled to India for a J-Term course, which delved into India’s fight for independence in the mid 1940s. Not exactly part of my career path or studies, but that’s the beauty of J-Term (and Drake)—you get to try something different.
Through our travels, from Delhi up to the Himalayas, I discovered a more multifaceted country than I expected. Its complicated history and myriad religious and social dynamics came to life as we explored over a three-week journey.
As I reflect on my time abroad, I recognize the parallels between India and Drake: Both provide deep opportunities for discovery and offer more experiences than you could ever imagine.
Drake students are doing something every day. Keep up with a few of them through their blogs.
