I’ll never forget my time as a Bulldog, which gave me the experience and knowledge I’ll need for the next part of my journey. Thanks to the incredible opportunities and guidance I’ve had at Drake, I was one of about 10 applicants selected to be part of the Medical Scientist Training Program at Northwestern, through which I will receive both my M.D. and Ph.D.
I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, and Drake prepared me for medical school in ways I didn’t expect. I started conducting research as a first year, and fell in love. After that, I knew I had to incorporate research into my career, and have spent countless hours in labs ever since.
At Drake, I’ve been able to construct a group of experiences that show I can work with patients while also deeply understanding the science behind the medicine. I quickly learned at Drake that you don’t need a pre-med major to get into medical school if you have mentors and professors who are invested in your success. Professor Gholam Mirafzal and many others have had a huge influence on me, and that support is what makes Drake a great place to learn how to be a doctor.
Drake students are doing something every day. Keep up with a few of them through their blogs.
