Next year, I hope to start my first year in pharmacy school—and pursue an M.B.A. at the same time. And even though I’ll be starting professional graduate programs, I’m technically only an undergraduate sophomore.
I’m jump-starting my future with the pre-pharmacy program at Drake. Already, I’ve been exposed to many aspects of pharmacy. There’s a misconception that you can’t do much with a pharmacy degree beyond filling prescriptions, which I’ve found is definitely not the case. I’ve job-shadowed pharmacists in a variety of settings and now am an intern at a grocery store pharmacy, which is is part of one of the largest grocers in the Midwest (thanks to a referral by a fraternity brother).
And while the performance expectations are high in the program, it will all be worth it when I’m part of that white coat ceremony next year inducting me as an official pharmacy student.
I’ve also found a lot of flexibility to pursue my other passions. Along with my studies and internship, I still have time to be heavily involved in a number of activities at Drake including choir (even as a non-music major) and Greek life. Sure, I don’t get a lot of sleep, but I enjoy every moment of it.
