Drake University student Cody Schweinefus fired a final-round 75 at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Colorado Men’s Golf Regional held on May 21. He’s the first Drake men’s golfer to earn a spot in the regional competition since 2006.

Drake softball pitcher earns all-American honors In May, Drake University women’s softball team pitcher Brynne Dordel received CoSIDA-Capital One Academic All-American honors, earning second team accolades and becoming Drake softball’s first Academic All-American since 2004. Jon DeGrave competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning honorable mention All-American honors. He was the first Drake men’s track and field athlete to qualify for the championships since 2000.

The Drake Football team is set to play the Global Kilimanjaro Bowl against a Mexican team, the CONADEIP All-Stars, in Tanzania on May 21. That matchup — billed as the first-ever game of collegiate American-style football on African soil — sets the stage for a series of student-hosted football clinics and volunteer opportunities at local orphanages. The trip will culminate with a group summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

At half time of the January 25 Bulldog basketball game, Drake presented alumni Lisa Behlmann Cannon, BN’80, and Zach Johnson, BN’98, with the highest honor Drake Athletics bestows on its former student-athletes — the Double D Award.
