When Drake basketball standout Klayton Korver, BS’08, graduated he considered pursuing a career in pro ball like his brother, Kyle, a guard for the Chicago Bulls. Instead, he put his Drake marketing degree to use fulfilling a Korver family tradition that runs even deeper than basketball — community outreach.
The Korver boys got their start in giving back to the community when their father, Kevin, led a civic restoration program through the California church he pastored until 1993, when the family moved to Pella, IA.
“When we started, Paramount, CA was ranked one of the top 10 worst cities to live in,” says Klayton. “We would pick up trash and paint over graffiti. It was kind of cool to watch people start to care about their yards and houses, and before long the gangs moved out.”
