The Drake University School of Education offers graduate level programs including master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees in the areas of effective teaching, educational leadership, adult training and development, higher education and counseling.

School of Education alumna Joan Gerling hopes to see the school’s new building constructed in her lifetime.

Drake PhD student Thomas Ahart named assistant superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools. Ahart will oversee a wide range of teaching and learning functions, including curriculum, assessment, ELL, early childhood education, special education and gifted and talented programs.

More than one hundred student teachers, mentor teachers, supervisors, faculty, and supportive friends and family attended the 2011 Drake School of Education Mentor Reception held last month in Levitt Hall.

Yolanda Christiansen and Jeanine Lynch, both currently teaching in the Johnston school district, continue to use tools learned in Drake University School of Education graduate programs to create innovative, forward-looking classrooms.

Drake Professor of Education Sally Beisser will spend her spring break in Belize, bringing books for children and leading educational workshops for teachers.
