Jason Grout

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Jason Grout received undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Missouri State University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from Brigham Young University. He also worked for some time during and between school as a computer programmer. He completed a two-year postdoctoral position in Mathematics at Iowa State University before joining Drake University in 2009.

His research interests include computational mathematics, linear algebra, graph theory, and open-source technology and materials in education. Jason is a leading developer in the Sage open-source math software system and leads a related student programming group at Drake. He is also actively involved in the Drake Math Club and problem-solving group.

The Environmental Education Summer Workshop for Teachers—co-sponsored by Drake University, MetroWaste Authority, and Prairie City-Monroe (PCM) School District—is designed to expose educators to a wide range of experiences connecting the natural history of Iowa’s plants and animals to problem-based learning exercises that address both science and math standards.
