Personalized Instruction: Drake's courses are taught on campus by faculty members who are experts in their fields. You'll have an opportunity to get to know your professors as they help to guide your teaching career.
Practical Experience: With at least 100 hours of observation and practice in local schools, you'll graduate with the skills and expertise needed to make an impact in the classroom. You'll also complete a full semester of student teaching before graduation.
Ideal Location: Drake has connections to urban, rural, suburban, public and private schools, so you can gain the type of experience you need to have the teaching career you desire.
Flexible Scheduling: Drake offers both daytime and evening courses, so there is some flexibility when planning your schedule, especially at the beginning of the program. The methods courses, which comprise the middle section of the program, are taught primarily during the day.
Professional Portfolio Development: You will develop a portfolio that will, by the end of the program, demonstrate that you have met the required teaching standards. This portfolio helps you display and discuss your expertise during job interviews.
Individualized Learning: You can take up to two courses (maximum of 7 credit hours) before deciding if you would like to complete the MAT (5-12) or MST (K-6) degree. In addition, Drake offers numerous endorsement options to allow you to teach in an area that interest you and builds on your strengths.
