Drake University/Community Chorus

The Drake University/Community Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble open to all Drake students, faculty, and staff, as well as any interested singers in the Des Moines area.

The ensemble typically consists of 125+ singers and rehearses weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. There is no fee for membership, although all singers must purchase their own music. The Chorus performs at the end of each semester and sings both major choral/orchestral works and a variety of smaller works of many styles. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Director of Choral Studies

To participate in the Drake University/Community Chorus, a non-auditioned ensemble open to all interested singers, come to the first rehearsal on Tuesday, August 29, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium, located in Drake’s Old Main (26th and University). The following music should be purchased from the University Bookstore prior to the first rehearsal:

  • Come, O Come, My Life’s Delight - David Dickau
  • Lebenslust - Franz Schubert
  • Sure on this shining night - Morten Lauridsen
  • Cantate Domino - Alec Schumacker

*The University Bookstore is now located in the Olmsted Center (north side of University at 29th Center).  There are a few short-term parking slots reserved in the Olmsted lot for bookstore shoppers. Check the bookstore website for hours of operation.
