Drake University/Community Chorus

The Drake University/Community Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble open to all Drake students, faculty, and staff, as well as any interested singers in the Des Moines area.

The ensemble typically consists of 125+ singers and rehearses weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. There is no fee for membership, although all singers must purchase their own music. The Chorus performs at the end of each semester and sings both major choral/orchestral works and a variety of smaller works of many styles. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Director of Choral Studies

To participate in the Drake University/Community Chorus, attend the first rehearsal on Tuesday, August 30, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., in Monroe Hall, located in the lower level of the Harmon Fine Arts Center.  The following music should be purchased from the University Bookstore prior to the first rehearsal:

  • By the Waters of Babylon - Daniel Nelson
  • Der Gang zum Liebchen - Johannes Brahms
  • And the Heart Replies - Brad Holmes

(Kyrie from Dominicusmesse, K. 66 by Mozart will be furnished to singers at the first rehearsal)

*The University Bookstore is now located in the Olmsted Center (north side of University at 29th Center).  There are a few short-term parking slots reserved in the Olmsted lot for bookstore shoppers. Check the bookstore website for hours of operation.

If you have questions about the ensemble, please contact Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier.
