Jazz One

Drake University’s Jazz Ensemble One, under the direction of the Fred and Patty Turner Professor of Jazz Studies, Andrew Classen, is the University’s premier jazz ensemble.

The band has recorded several albums and toured throughout the United States and abroad, performing at the internationally renowned Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands.

Named an Outstanding College Jazz Ensemble at the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire Jazz Festival, Drake Jazz Ensemble One has also performed at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival, Elmhurst Jazz Festival, University of Kansas Jazz Festival and Iowa Jazz Championships.

Jazz Ensemble One meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:20 to 1:50 p.m. in the Turner Jazz Center

Drake senior Morayo Adeyoju, a native of the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria, shares his cultural history as part of an art exhibition on display through Oct. 22 in The Anderson Gallery. Adeyoju's grandfather was a king of the Yoruba tribe.
