Brooke Humfeld

Assistant Director of Bands

Brooke Humfeld is Assistant Director of Bands at Drake University in Des Moines, IA where she directs the Drake Marching Band, Bulldog Brass, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble.

Prior to joining the faculty at Drake, Humfeld was Director of Athletic Bands and Instructor of Music at North Central College in Naperville, IL. There, she directed the Cardinal Athletic Band and taught undergraduate music education and conducting courses. She holds a Master’s of Music in Music Education and Conducting from Appalachian State University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Delaware. Upon completing her Bachelor’s degree, Humfeld served as the Director of Bands at Patuxent High School in Lusby, MD for three years.

Humfeld is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, the National Association for Music Education, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honors Society, and the Cratis Williams Society of Outstanding Graduates of the Graduate School at Appalachian State University. During her tenure as Director of Bands at Patuxent High School, Humfeld was featured in School Band and Orchestra Magazine representing the state of Maryland as one of “50 Directors Who Make a Difference.”

Humfeld is active as a guest conductor and adjudicator, and serves as a staff member with the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy in the summers.
