Des Moines native trumpeter Dave Rezek is the Jazz Combo Coordinator at Drake University, where he coaches Jazz Combo I. He holds a B.M.E. degree with a jazz studies specialization from the University of Northern Iowa and a M.M. degree in Jazz Trumpet Performance from New England Conservatory.

Dave has been active as a private teacher, clinician, festival adjudicator and performer, and guest artist with colleges and high schools. He is on the faculty of Susie Miget's Creative Music Studio, where he teaches trumpet techniques, jazz improvisation and private trumpet instruction. He leads own original-music septet Dave Rezek’s Alpha State Agents, and he performs as a member of Michael Conrad’s Colossus Big Band, the Des Moines Big Band, Erick Thompson's Fun-time Music Hour, Salsa Vibe Orchestra, Parranderos Latin Combo, and as arranger/musical director for Max Wellman’s ensembles. He is also an original board member with one of the Midwest’s most important jazz organizations, Synergy Jazz Foundation, a professional non-profit organization that promotes jazz opportunities and awareness to the students and communities of Iowa through education and professional performances, including guest artist workshops and performances at Drake University's own Fred and Patty Turner Jazz Center.

Prior to Dave's returned to Des Moines in 2007, Dave had spent the last 10 years in Boston and New York. In Boston, Dave performed as a member of a handful of large groups led by Bob Brookmeyer’s top composition students, including Darcy James Argue, JC Sanford, David Schumacher, Ayn Inserto, Hans Indigo, Javier Arau, and Christian Pincock. In New York, in addition to subbing with several large ensembles, he continued to perform with one of the Boston born groups that went on to gain additional critical acclaim – the Grammy Award Nominated large ensemble Darcy James Argue's Secret Society. Dave was on the sub list for Broadway for numerous shows, most notably being one of the first designated subs for the Broadway hit Jersey Boys, with whom he performed on stage at the 2006 Tony Awards Show, where he led out the horn section and the show earned Best Musical.
