Juan Carlos Mendoza, tenor, is a native of Muscatine, IA. He received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa where he studied with Dr. John Muriello, and a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied with W. Stephen Smith.
Roles include Freddy in My Fair Lady with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra, Radio Singer in A December to Remember for the University of Iowa, Tigranes in the North American premiere of Cavalli’s La Doriclea, Gloster Hemming in The Mother of Us All, and Bill in A Hand of Bridge for the Juilliard Opera Workshop, as well as performances in Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, The Ghosts of Versailles, and The Great Gatsby at The Aspen Music Festival and School. Concert work include Tenor Soloist in Mozart’s Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat and Mass in g minor, Telemann’s Deus, judicium tuum, DuBois’ Seven Last Words of Christ, and Uriel in Haydn’s The Creation. Other performances include recitals throughout southeast Iowa, featured performances with the Simon Estes ROOTS & WINGS concert series, the Department of Homeland Security, The United Methodist Iowa Annual Conference, and performed the National Anthem at a rally for Vice President Biden.
As an educator he has served on the voice faculties of Kirkwood Community College, Knox College and Monmouth College, and held a teaching assistantship while attending the University of Iowa.
