FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 3, 2000 CONTACT: Lisa Lacher, (515) 271-3119 DRAKE CONCERT ON FRIDAY, APRIL 7, TO EXPLORE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSIC AND WORDS A free concert exploring the relationship between words and music will be held Friday, April 7, at Drake University. The concert, titled "The Poet's Quill," will start at 8 p.m. on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 26th Street and University Avenue. Clive Elliott, Drake's Daniel B. Goldberg artist in residence, will serve as narrator. Performing will be the Drake Chorale, conducted by Eric Knapp; the Drake Chamber Choir, conducted by Aimee Beckmann-Collier; and the Drake Flute Choir, conducted by Patricia Shinehouse. The musical selections will include Randall Thompson's "Frostiana" suite (poetry by Robert Frost), three settings of "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" (American folk song), Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Three Elizabethan Songs," and music from the Renaissance by Monteverdi, Josquin and Hassler.
