WENDL NAMED DIRECTOR OF DRAKE'S ANDERSON GALLERY

Nora Wendl, who served as interim director of Drake University's Anderson Gallery during the 2004 spring semester, has been named director of the Anderson Gallery.

Wendl holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Iowa State University, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in architecture. She has exhibited her own work at Iowa State’s College of Design and the Westbrook Artists’ Site. Her diploma project, “Housework, Chamber Scrypts & Filching,” won the RDG Bussard Dikis Senior Design Award and was featured in the July 2004 awards issue of Iowa Architect magazine.

“We have some exciting exhibitions planned for the fall semester, beginning with Daniel Raffin’s installation titled ‘Longing,’ which opens Friday, Aug. 27,” Wendl said. “In October we’ll have a collaborative installation with graphic and sculptural elements by Chicago-based artists Adelheid Mers and Patrick McGee. In November, internationally recognized sculptor Kendall Buster will bring her site-inspired installations to the Anderson Gallery.”

The Anderson Gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday on the street level of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue. There is free admission to the Anderson Gallery and programs at the gallery, which was founded in 1996 to exhibit and support innovation in art and design. The gallery strives to enrich the cultural life of the University and area communities through diverse and challenging exhibitions, educational programs and publications.

As a showcase for art and design exhibitions, the Anderson Gallery, with its humanistic and interdisciplinary interpretation of art and culture, is an essential component of the University’s academic programs and the Department of Art and Design. The gallery offers area residents, visitors, and students from all disciplines the opportunity to participate in the current discourse and historical context surrounding art and design.
