FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 12, 1999 CONTACT: Lisa Lacher, (515) 271-3119 DRAKE OFFERS 12 MAJORS FOR PART-TIME STUDENTS Drake University will offer part-time students a choice of 12 popular majors leading to bachelor's degrees beginning this fall. Classes for these majors will meet mostly at night and sometimes on weekends. Six of the 12 majors are in the College of Business and Public Administration - accounting, finance, general business, information systems, management and marketing. The six other majors for part-time students are advertising, elementary and secondary education, history, sociology and an individualized major. For decades, Drake has served full-time students through both the general university and the Drake Law School. And for many years Drake has offered graduate degrees to part-time students through its Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration and more than a dozen other graduate degree programs. But the undergraduate degree program for part-time adult learners is new, said Interim Provost Stephen G. Hoag, who added that Drake has been planning for some time now to serve working adults and other part-time college students with a program of this sort. "We haven't even named the program yet," Hoag added, "but we wanted to begin offering it as soon as possible." Drake's fall semester classes start Monday, Aug. 23. The program features conveniently scheduled classes (more evenings than weekends); students' access to full-time faculty with top academic credentials; the resources of a full-service campus, including libraries, computer labs and recreational facilities; and the opportunity to become involved in a campus community through organizations and activities. "We expect a limited number of part-time students this fall, but we plan to build the program over time to the point that in a couple of years we are positioned as the premier provider of bachelor's degrees to part-time students in this region," Hoag said. For more information on earning a Drake degree through part-time study, call the Office of the Provost at (515) 271-3751. |
