DRAKE UNIVERSITY TO CELEBRATE 'WOMYN WEEK'
Drake University will hold numerous special events as part of the annual "In
Celebration of Womyn Week," which begins Sunday, Feb. 27. All of the events
are free and open to the public.
An art show featuring work by Drake women artists will open Sunday, Feb. 27, in the
living room of Morehouse Residence Hall, 28th Street and University Avenue. There
will be an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. There also will be a potluck dinner
and movie at 6 p.m. that day in the Women's Center in Morehouse Hall.
Members of Drake sororities will discuss "Is There Feminism in the Greek System?"
during a panel discussion at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, in Bulldog Theater in Olmsted
Center, 29th Street and University Avenue.
Graduates of Drake's Women's Studies program will be featured at another panel discussion,
which will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, in Bulldog Theater. The topic will
be "What do I do after graduation?"
Rekha Basu, a columnist for The Des Moines Register, will give a speech titled "10
Reasons to be a Feminist" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, in the Honors Lounge
of Medbury Hall, 1317 28th St.
"In Celebration of Womyn Week" will continue with Open Mic Night at 8 p.m.
Thursday, March 2, in the Student Lounge of Olmsted Center. On Friday, March 3, acoustic
guitarist Carla Sloan will perform at the Varsity Coffeehouse at 1229 25th St.
The following Saturday, March 11, a concert of works by Des Moines composer and Drake
alumna Linda Robbins Coleman and other women composers will be performed at 8 p.m.
on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 26th Street and University
Avenue.
