DRAKE SYMPHONY TO FEATURE XYLOPHONE SOLOIST
The Drake Symphony Orchestra, John Canarina conducting, will give its first concert
of the spring semester at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow
Auditorium in Old Main, 26th Street and University Avenue.
Featured soloist will be Kirsten Anthony, this year's winner of the Drake Soloist
Competition. Anthony, a senior from Lexington, Nebraska, will perform the Concertino
for Xylophone and Orchestra by the 20th-century Japanese composer Toshiro Mayuzumi.
The varied program will also include Mozart's Overture to "The Magic Flute,"
the "Royal Hunt and Storm" from "The Trojans" by Berlioz,
the Prelude to "Irmelin" by Frederick Delius, and the entertaining "Háry
János Suite" by Zoltan Kodály.
