NORTHWESTERN LAW PROF TO SPEAK AT DRAKE MARCH 8

Dorothy Roberts, professor of law at Northwestern University Law School, will speak on International Women’s Day to mark the beginning of Drake University’s annual “In Celebration of Womyn Week,” March 8-13.

Roberts will present “Feminism, Racial Justice and Child Welfare Policy,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, in Bulldog Theater in Olmsted Center, 29th Street and University Avenue. Her speech is free and open to the public.

Educated at Yale University and at Harvard Law School, Roberts has written several books, including “Shattered Bonds: The Color of Child Welfare.” In addition, she has written and lectured extensively on the interplay of gender, race and class in legal issues concerning reproduction, motherhood and child welfare policy.

Roberts’ speech will highlight the beginning of Drake’s “In Celebration of Womyn Week,” which is sponsored by Drake’s Women’s Studies Program, Humanities Center, Coalition of Black Students, Department for the Study of Culture and Society and Student Senate. “In Celebration of Womyn Week” will continue with the following events, which are free and open to the public:

• A Volunteer Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, in Olmsted Center.

• “Creating the Self” through Mask Making, 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, Women’s Studies Office, room 214A, Meredith Hall, 28th Street and Carpenter Avenue.

• “Learning Your Body” Women’s Health Forum, 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, Upper Gallery, Olmsted Center.

• “Finding Your Voice” Persephone’s Dinner and Open Mic, 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, Come As You Are (CAYA) House, 1155 28th St.

• Spa Party at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 13, CAYA House. Bring a towel, wash cloth and foot basin.
