CULVER TO SPEAK THURSDAY AS PART OF DRAKE DEMOCRATS WEEK
Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver will speak to Drake University students
about the Democratic Party and why he's a Democrat at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb.
17, as part of Drake Democrats Week. The speech, which is free and open to the
public, will take place in the Pomerantz Student Union in Olmsted Center, 29th
Street and University Avenue.
Culver, who holds a master's degree in teaching from Drake, is in his second
term as secretary of state. He was first elected secretary of state in 1998
at age 33, making him the youngest secretary of state in the nation at that
time. Prior to his election, Culver worked for more than 10 years in public
service in Iowa as an educator at Hoover High School in Des Moines, an investigator
in the Iowa Attorney General's Office and a youth advocate. He is son of John
Culver, who served Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1965-1974
and in the U.S. Senate from 1974-1980.
