DRAKE TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In celebration of Black History Month, Drake University has organized numerous
special events highlighting the history, culture and accomplishments of African Americans.
Here are the activities that are open to the public. They are free unless otherwise
noted.
A Def Comedy Jam comedian known as "Talent" will perform at 8 p.m. Friday,
Feb. 2, in Parents Hall at Olmsted Center, 29th Street and University Avenue. Tickets,
available at the door, are $10 per person.
Delta Sigma Theta sorority will sponsor a chili feed and a movie at 7:13 p.m. Sunday,
Feb. 4, at the Drake Black Cultural Center, 3303 University Ave.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, an investment seminar titled "Wanna Retire at 45?"
will take place at 7:13 p.m. in Olmsted Center.
Kevin Powell of MTV's "Real World" will speak in Sheslow Auditorium in
Old Main at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.
"Spades and Grades," a discussion about striving for academic excellence,
will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the Drake Black Cultural Center.
Kappa Alpha Psi will sponsor a discussion of "Issues that Affect the Black Community"
at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Black Cultural Center.
In conjunction with Valentine's Day on Wednesday, Feb. 14, Kappa Alpha Psi will hold
a "Strawberries and Champagne Poetry Reading" at 8 p.m. at the Black Cultural
Center.
A roundtable discussion of "Diversity and Stereotypes" will be held at
8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Black Cultural Center.
Black History Month will conclude on Saturday, March 3, with the Coalition of Black
Students Talent Show at 8 p.m. in Olmsted Center.
Drake's Black History Month events are sponsored by the Coalition of Black Students
