JAMES REYNOLDS
NAMED INTERIM DEAN OF DRAKE'S COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND HEALTH SCIENCES
James Reynolds, associate professor of pharmacology and associate dean for administration
at Drake University, has been named interim dean of the College of Pharmacy and
Health Sciences, effective March 10. He will succeed Stephen Hoag, who will leave
Drake in March to become dean of a new pharmacy school under development at the
University of Minnesota - Duluth.
In announcing Reynolds'
appointment, Drake Provost Ron Troyer said, " I am confident that Jim brings
the experience, talent and enthusiasm that are required to maintain the exceptional
quality that characterizes the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences."
The college, which
is recognized as a national leader in pharmacy education, has capped enrollment
to ensure the quality of its programs. Each year, the college receives approximately
400 applications for the two-year pre-professional pharmacy program and accepts
150 applicants. Approximately 350 students apply each year for the 110 openings
in the four-year pharmacy program, which leads to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
Reynolds, a 1979
graduate of Drake University, also holds a master's degree in zoology from DePauw
University and a Ph.D. in physiology from Illinois State University. He joined
the Drake faculty in 1989 and has served as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical
Sciences since 1994. He has won numerous teaching awards, including the Madelyn
M. Levitt Teacher of the Year Award in 1997.
A search committee
has been formed to conduct a national search for a new dean of the College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
