DRAKE PROFESSOR TO READ FROM HER BOOK SUNDAY

Catherine Taylor, assistant professor of English at Drake University and author of "Giving Birth: A Journey Into the World of Mothers and Midwives," will read from her book at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 4550 University Ave., West Des Moines. Following the reading, Taylor and local midwives will present an educational program on midwifery.

Taylor is a doula, or birth assistant, and a mother of two. Her book earned her the Lamaze International Birth Advocate of the Year award in 2003. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Duke University and has written articles for numerous publications including Rolling Stone, New York Woman, Every Baby and The Oxford Companion to Women's Writing in the United States .
