Drake University's Department of Music will be hosting "Piano at Drake" July 6-10.

"'Piano at Drake' is designed to provide an opportunity for talented pianists grades 8 through 12 to work closely with accomplished artists and teachers who are on the faculty of the Department of Music at Drake University," said Nicholas Roth, assistant professor of piano.

The department is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and is renowned throughout the region for the quality of its professional degree programs in music. Roth will lead the program along with Chiu-Ling Lin, professor of piano and William P. Dougherty, professor of music theory and composition.

The program will include two private lessons, special sessions on jazz and composition, and master classes on solo piano, piano duet and collaborative practices.

The total cost of the workshop is $350 for single occupancy and $330 for double occupancy, which includes all instruction, housing and food, and use of on-campus recreational facilities. For students not staying on campus, the cost is $290, which includes instruction only.

A non-refundable deposit of $125 is due by June 18, payable to Piano at Drake. Students should plan to arrive at the Drake Fine Arts Center, 25th and Carpenter Streets, by 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6 for registration. The opening faculty recital will be held at 3 p.m. on July 6.
