PERFORMANCE
POET TO SPEAK AT DRAKE APRIL 9
Performance
poet Sara Holbrook, author of "The Dog Ate My Homework" and
"Am I Naturally This Crazy?" will give a poetry reading and
performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, as part of the Drake University
Writers and Critics Series. The event, which is free and open to the public,
will take place in the Honors Lounge of Medbury Hall, 1317 28th St.
Holbrook
has written several books for readers of all ages, including "Chicks
Up Front" published by Cleveland State University Press and "What's
So Big About Cleveland?" published by Gray and Co.
"I write
poetry for the silly, the wondering, the sometimes helpless and misunderstood,"
Holbrook said. "I write about two things mostly what I know
and what I wonder about. Reading and writing poetry helps me understand
my life, the world and the people I care about. Whether I am writing funny
or serious poems, writing poetry helps me see what's true. Sharing my
passion for poetry with audiences is the best job I've ever had."
The Writers
and Critics Series is sponsored by Drakes English Department, the
Program for the Critical Studies of Culture and the Center for the Humanities.
