DRAKE APPOINTS NATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD ON DIVERSITY
Drake University President David Maxwell announced today that he has appointed
a 16-member National Advisory Board on Diversity.
"Promoting diversity is of tremendous importance to Drake," President
Maxwell said. "It will be immensely helpful to have input from community
leaders and alumni as we work to ensure that Drake students, faculty and staff
are able to function effectively as members of diverse local, national and global
communities."
Maxwell said he is very pleased that "everyone we asked to be on the advisory
board has agreed to serve." In a letter to board members, Maxwell said their
primary responsibility will be "to review the University's goals in the area
of diversity, to help us assess our progress, to give us the wisdom derived from
their own experience, expertise and external perspective, and to serve as a sounding
board for our ideas and goals as we move forward."
The National Advisory Board on Diversity is Drake's 10th national advisory board.
These boards provide valuable advice and perspective to the University on critical
issues. There already is a national advisory board for each of Drake's six colleges
and schools and for technology, Cowles Library and the National Alumni Board.
