STUDENT COMEDIANS INVITED TO AUDITION FOR CONTEST

Drake students with a flair for comedy are invited to audition for "Night of a Thousand Laughs," a standup comedy competition sponsored by the English Department. Auditions will be held from 6 to 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in room 308 of Howard Hall. Performers should pre-register for the auditions by contacting Randall Huff, visiting assistant professor of English, at x3828 or randall.huff@drake.edu.

"Night of a Thousand Laughs" will take place at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main. A panel of distinguished judges will select the funniest man and woman on campus. Judges will include President David Maxwell and First Lady Madeleine Maxwell; Provost Ronald Troyer and his wife, Susan; Adam Lackey, co-captain of the Drake football team; and Jessica Oeth, a member of the women's cross country team.

Drake alumnus and local television celebrity and standup comedian Steve Berry will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Bruce Martin, a professional musician as well as the Ellis and Nelle Levitt professor of English, will provide the music for the show.
