RENOWNED SCHOLAR TO SPEAK AT DRAKE OCT. 18, 19
Pieter A.M. Seuren, an internationally renowned Dutch scholar who specializes
in the philosophy of language and logic, will give two lectures at Drake University
next week.
He will present a lecture titled "A Scholar's Journey from Plato to Now"
at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. His second lecture, titled "Aristotelian Predicate
Calculus Restored," will start at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19. Both lectures, which
are free and open to the public, will take place in the Honors Lounge of Medbury
Hall, 1317 28h St.
Seuren is a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for PsychoLinguistics: Language
and Cognition Group in the Netherlands. He has published 15 books and more than 100
articles on linguistics, psychology, philosophy and computer science. He has had
university appointments and visiting professorships at Amsterdam, Groningen, Sydney,
Zurich, Berne, Oxford and Cambridge, among others.
