DRAKE SYMPHONY TO FEATURE FRENCH, RUSSIAN MUSIC

The Drake Symphony Orchestra, John Canarina conducting, will perform colorful French and Russian music in its first concert of the fall semester at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 25th Street and University Avenue.

The featured soloist will be faculty oboist Jay Light, who will be heard in "The Flower Clock" by Jean Françaix, a work written for Light's teacher, John de Lancie of the Philadelphia
Orchestra.

The major orchestral work of the evening will be Rimsky-Korsakov's great symphonic suite, "Scheherazade." Also on the program are Kabalevsky's electrifying Overture to "Colas Breugnon" and "Sarabande and Danse" by Debussy in the orchestral version by Ravel.

Admission is free. For more information, call (515) 271-3975.
