COALITION OF BLACK STUDENTS PRESENTS LECTURE ON PRIVILEGE, INTERCULTURAL
RELATIONS
Shelia Wright,
professor of education at Xavier University, will present "No Mirrors:
Revealing the Matrix of Privilege" at Drake University on Wednesday,
Nov. 7. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will start
at 7 p.m. in room 101 of Meredith Hall, 28th Street and Carpenter Avenue.
Wright will
focus on privilege, which she defines as an invisible package of unearned
assets, and its implications for intercultural relations. She also will
explore the systemic changes necessary for creating a meaningful transformation
that could lead to a more peaceful co-existence.
Wright's
lecture is presented by the Drake Coalition of Black Students with support
from Drake's Critical Studies of Culture Program.
Wright has
coordinated partnerships with various nonprofit organizations and worked
with specific initiatives involving the Latin America Resource Center.
She received her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University and holds
degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro.
