SOROS TO GIVE SPEECH AT DRAKE UNIVERSITY OCT. 22

George Soros, a financier, philanthropist, author and philosopher, will speak at noon Friday, Oct. 22, in Drake University's Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 25th Street and University Avenue. His speech, which is free and open to the public, is titled "The Bubble of American Supremacy: The War in Iraq and the 2004 Election."

Born in Budapest, Soros fled communist Hungary for England in 1947, where he later graduated from the London School of Economics. He emigrated to the United
States in 1956 and founded an international investment fund that made him a
billionaire.

Soros has established a network of philanthropic organizations active in more than 50 countries. His Open Society Institute and other networks have spent $450 million annually to promote the values of democracy and bring about social, legal and economic change. Soros is the author of eight books, including "The Bubble of American Supremacy: The Costs of Bush’s War in Iraq." His articles and essays on politics, society and economics regularly appear in major newspapers and magazines around the world.
