FANS OF HBO'S 'SEX AND THE CITY,' WILL LOVE DRAKE'S
PRODUCTION OF 'A GIRL'S GUIDE TO CHAOS'
On Thursday, Oct. 28, Drake University Theater will open its production of "A
Girl's Guide to Chaos," Cynthia Heimel's play about the escapades of single
women looking for love in Los Angeles.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Before Sara Jessica Parker there was Cynthia Heimel. "A Girl's
Guide to Chaos" is a hilarious and poignant look at the lives of three
single women looking for love and post-modern enlightenment in the early '90s.
The lead character Cynthia is a singles columnist. She and her two best friends,
Cleo and Rita, lead us through their neuroses over men, clothes, commitment
and growing old. They get boyfriends, they lose boyfriends, they have girls’
night out and dish about it all. And along the way, they try to figure out just
what it is that makes men and women tick. They are the big sisters of the "Sex
and the City" girls.
A Girl’s Guide to Chaos" is based on Heimel's classic 1983 book "Sex
Tips for Girls." Originally a long-running Off-Broadway production, it
was updated in 1990 and relocated to New York. Since then, the show has gained
a cult following for its humorous exploration of the male-female relationship.
It has been produced around the country to enthusiastic reviews.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Cynthia Heimel is the author of seven books on romance, feminism and single
life, including "Sex Tips for Girls," "If You Can’t Live
Without Me", "Why Aren’t You Dead Yet?" and "When
Your Phone Doesn’t Ring, It’ll Be Me." Her long-running columns
in both Playboy and the Village Voice cemented her place as the smart, sarcastic
and sassy voice of single women in the eighties and early nineties. USA Today
describes her as “your best friend, Jewish mother and analyst, with a
better sense of humor than the three combined," and The New York Times
says “Cynthia Heimel is an urban romantic with a scathing X-ray vision
that penetrates her most deeply cherished fantasies.”
