DRAKE TO HOLD FORUM ON POLITICS & PUBLIC RELATIONS

Drake University will host an open forum on politics titled "Political PR: Policy, Politics and Everything In Between" at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The event, which is open to the public, will take place on the upper level of Olmsted Center, 29th Street and University Avenue.

Professionals from both sides of the political spectrum will pass along their practical wisdom from their experiences in event planning, media relations, fundraising, grassroots campaigning and the career path of politics.

The forum is co-sponsored by the Drake Public Relations Student Society of America, the Drake Democrats, the Drake College Republicans and the Office of the Student Body President.

" This forum provides a behind-the-scenes look at politics that many people don't know about," said Shawn Rolland, vice president of communications for Drake PRSSA. "We made an extra special effort to get experts from the Democratic and Republican parties in order to provide a balanced forum for all to enjoy and learn from."

The keynote speaker will be Mike Glover, an Associated Press reporter based in Iowa. Other speakers will include Gentry Collins; executive director of the Republican Party of Iowa and manager of the Doug Gross gubernatorial campaign, Iowa Rep. Gene Maddox; Leon V. Mosley, state co-chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa; Mark Daley, communications director of the Iowa Democratic Party; John Friedrich, Iowa state director for Dennis Kucinich; Sarah Benzing, field director for Bob Graham in Iowa; and Clare Gannon, deputy communications director for Howard Dean in Iowa.

The forum, which includes lunch, costs $10 in advance or $12 at the door. All pre-registration checks must be postmarked by Monday, Sept. 22, and mailed to Drake PRSSA, c/o Laura Kaslow, 1100 24th St., Suite 2, Des Moines, IA, 50311.

More information about the forum is available at Drake PRSSA's Web site at www.geocities.com/drakeprssa.
