Campus Activities: Student body president, vice president and senator-at-large, Cool Beans Coffeehouse director/manager (also led the initiative to develop Cool Beans); Peer Mentor/Academic Consultants, Beta Alpha Psi, Delta Gamma Sorority.

Background: Undergraduate degrees in math and geography from Valparaiso University, a master's degree in biostatistics and Ph.D. in geography from the University of Iowa and a master's in geography from the University of Minnesota.

Professional Associations: American Statistical Association, American Meteorological Society, American Society for Quality

Notable Achievement: Drake University College of Business and Public Administration Undergraduate Teacher of the Year in 1990-1991 and in 1999-2000; Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Non-Pharmacy Teacher of the Year in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003.

"My favorite aspect of teaching is seeing students understand a topic, such as statistics, that they believe is very difficult."


 

Alumni Profile:
Alessandrea C. (Handley) Quane, BN'92

Occupation: Vice President and Regional Actuary at American International Group. Quane currently works in the European headquarters in Paris, France, as the regional actuary for personal and commercial lines for three regions: UK/Ireland, Europe and Eastern Europe.

Professional Associations/Notable Achievements: Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of American Academy of Actuaries.

First Job: Actuarial analyst for Allstate Indemnity.

Off-the-Job Interests: Traveling and family.
