CAPITAL STRIDERS HOST BENEFIT FOR DRAKE STADIUM

The Capital Striders, one of the largest running and fitness clubs in central Iowa, will host a screening of “Without Limits,” a biographical film about runner Steve Prefontaine, to benefit the renovation of Drake Stadium.

Tickets will be $20 and include food with the film. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Vaudeville Mews, 212 4th St. in downtown Des Moines.

Prefontaine, one of America’s greatest distance runners, ran at Drake Stadium in the 1970 NCAA Championships. A scene in “Without Limits,” a 1998 film staring Billy Crudup as the runner, depicts Prefontaine running at Drake.

When Prefontaine died in 1975 car accident at the age of 24, he held the American records in every event greater than a mile: 2000 meters, 3000 meters, 2-mile, 3-mile, 10,000 meters and 6-miles.

For more information about the screening and benefit, contact Carl Voss at (515) 210-0237.
