DRAKE PLANS MANY EVENTS TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In celebration of Black History Month, Drake University's Coalition of Black
Students has organized numerous special events highlighting the history, culture
and accomplishments of African Americans. All of the events in the schedule
that follows are free and open to the public:
Today (Wednesday, Feb. 2): Charmaine Kwesi of Dallas, Texas,
will discuss "The Cultural Destruction of African Fashion," Bulldog
Theater, Olmsted Center, 29th Street and University Avenue, 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 3: A Multicultural Village Fishbowl in Cool
Beans, Hubbell Dining Hall, 1344 29th St., 8 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 4: Fashion Show in Parents Hall, Olmsted Center,
8 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 8: Men's and Women’s Forums, 8 p.m. The
Men's Forum will take place at the Black Cultural Center, 1149 28th St., while
the Women's Forum will be held in the living room of Morehouse Residence Hall,
1202 28th St.
Thursday Feb. 10: Speech on "Black Love" by Wanda
Everage, vice provost for student affairs and academic excellence at Drake,
Bulldog Theater, Olmsted Center, 8 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 12: Stepper’s Set Network (workshop followed
by a dance), Parents Hall, Olmsted Center, 8 to 11 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 15: Black Ice (poetry night) in Cool Beans, Hubbell
Dining Hall, 8 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 24: Concert by Tim Bostwick, a sophomore music
major from Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jordan Stage, Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main,
25th Street and University Avenue, 8 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 25: "Breaking Ice" theatrical performance
by a Minnesota troupe, Parents Hall, Olmsted Center, 8 p.m.
Sunday Feb. 27: Mama's Cooking, Black Cultural Center, 6 p.m.
