STORY CITY LIBRARY TO NAME ROOM AFTER DRAKE TRUSTEE
The north room of the Bertha Bartlett Public Library in Story City, Iowa, will be dedicated to Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne, a graduate of Drake University and a member of Drake's Board of Trustees, at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30.
Kinne, chancellor emeritus and past president of Jacksonville University in Florida, will participate in the dedication ceremony, which is free and open to the public. The library is named after her mother.
The library's board of directors voted unanimously to name the north room "The Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne Wing." The board praised Kinne for her "substantial guidance and substantial money gifts" in building the library in the early 1990s, "including funds to complete the north room itself."
A native of Story City, Kinne earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in music education at Drake and her Ph.D. at the University of Frankfurt in Germany. She also has received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Drake, as well as honorary degrees from several other institutions. Drake dedicated its new Alumni and Development Center in her honor in 1997.
