DRAKE THEATRE TO PRESENT AWARD-WINNING DRAMA ‘TOUCH’

On Thursday, Dec. 1, Drake University Theatre will open its production of Toni Press-Coffman’s award-winning drama “Touch.”

“Touch” explores the idea that there is little as inspiring as perfect love. Kyle had that love with Zoe. They fell for each other in high school, even though he was a science nerd and she was the charismatic, artistic type. As Kyle explains in “Touch,” their marriage was perfect, until the day Zoe never returned from the store. As Kyle’s friends and family try to cope with the loss, Kyle must struggle with the memory of his wife and learn about the nature of grief and wonder. This production contains smoking and adult themes that may be unsuitable for children.

Press-Coffman chairs the National New Play Network's Literary Committee. She has written 20 plays. She lives in Tucson, Ariz., where she is literary manager of the Borderlands Theater. Her work has garnered many honors, including an NEA/TCG Playwright Residency Award.

The Actors Theater of Louisville, Ky., first produced “Touch” in 2000. In 2003 it was produced off-Broadway by Women's Project and Productions.

Amy Shoemaker, a senior from Prairie Village, Kan., directs Drake’s production. Performances start at 8 p.m. Dec. 1, 2 and 3 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Studio 55 of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue. Admission is free with a reservation. For reservations, call the Drake Fine Arts Box Office at (515) 271-3841.
