Jerry Price, dean of students, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Iowa Student Personnel Association. He was lauded for serving with distinction in nearly every ISPA office. He also has been selected as a candidate for the post of Region IV-East vice president-elect of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
Susan Sidney Smith, associate professor of education, returned recently from Budapest, Hungary, where she participated in a task force meeting sponsored by the Soros' Open Society Institute. She was selected among the 70 professors involved in the International Reading Association's Reading and Writing and Critical Thinking Project. She, and three other professors from the United States and Canada, represented the North America constituency to develop international standards for the project.
Ramesh Dhussa, assistant professor of geography, presented a paper titled "Glimpses of a Remnant Cultural Landscape" at the 28th Annual Conference on South Asia, held in October, 1999, in Madison, Wis.
John M. Hicks, professor emeritus of art, has an article titled "Who Cares About Public School Education" in the January issue of Phi Delta Kappan, the international journal of Phi Delta Kappa of Bloomington, Ind.
Bruce Horner, associate professor of English, has published "Traditions and Professionalization: Reconceiving Work in Composition," an essay that appears in the latest issue of the journal College Composition and Communication.
Melissa Weresh, assistant director of legal writing, published an article titled "Score Sheets, Templates, Marginal Notes, Peer Editing and More" in the volume 14, number 1 issue of The Second Draft by the Legal Writing Institute. The article addressed various techniques used to respond to student writing.
