Linda Ryan, senior assistant tthe president and secretary of the University, recently was elected ta three-year term on the board of directors of the National Association of Presidential Assistants in Higher Education (NAPAHE) at the group's annual meeting in Miami.
Robert Hariman, the Ellis and Nelle Levitt professor of rhetoric and vice provost for interdisciplinary studies, recently participated in a public panel discussion of the document, The National Security Strategy of the United States. The discussion took place in Iowa City, Iowa.
Kathy Van Elsen, chemistry lab assistant, joined six members of the Drake Chemistry Club in presenting Chemical Magic Shows for approximately 300 elementary school students in the Des Moines area. Van Elsen will return tMonroe Elementary School as a science speaker for Career Day for fifth graders.
William S.E. Coleman, professor emeritus of theatre arts, and his wife, Linda Robbins Coleman, FA'76, are working with Robert Smith, a Native American activist, and Stephen Carney, a civilian historian attached tthe United States Army Center of Military History, in writing a revision of the 7th Cavalry's presently erroneous Pine Ridge 1890 battle streamer citation. This change in Army policy is one of the results of Coleman's involvement in twdebates at the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and Law School at the University of Virginia about the nature of the Wounded Knee Massacre. While Congress has admitted that a massacre occurred at Wounded Knee on Dec. 29, 1890, the Army has continued tcall this tragic event a battle. A correction of the 7th's citation has been advocated by the Lakotas for more than a generation. The Colemans are co-authors ofVoices of Wounded Knee.
Klaus Bartschat, the Ellis and Nelle Levitt professor of physics, recently published a paper in Physical Review A titled "Box-Based Convergent Close-Coupling for Solving Coulomb Few-body Problems."
Corbin Stone, women's soccer coach, recently gave a guest lecture in Randall Huff's Business Communications classes on the marketing of his team.
Edward Bell, associate professor of pharmacy practice, and Geoff Wall, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, published a paper titled "Pediatric Constipation Therapy Using Guidelines and Polyethylene Glycol 3350" in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy.
Bob Ehrhart, former Drake track and field head coach, will be inducted intthe coaches wing of the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame on March 5 in St. Louis, during the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament weekend. Ehrhart is the fifth "Coaches Wing" selection tthe MVC Hall of Fame and the second consecutive track and field coach treceive the honor.
