Luz M. DeAlba,
Windsor professor of science and professor of mathematics, is co-author of the
article titled "The Nonnegative P_0 Matrix Completion Problem," which
appears in the most recent issue of the Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra.
Carl Staplin,
professor of organ and church music, has had an organ composition accepted for
publication by Randall Eagan Music Publishers Ltd., Minneapolis. The work was
commissioned by St. Mark Lutheran Church, West Des Moines, to commemorate the
church's 80th anniversary. The title is "Advent Prelude on the Name of St.
Mark" and the musical motive employed was numerically based on "St.
Mark."
Jerry Honts,
associate professor of biology, recently participated in a conference aimed at
integrating biology, mathematics and computer science in undergraduate curricula:
"Meeting the Challenges: Education Across the Biological, Mathematical, and
Computer Sciences." The meeting in Bethesda, Md., was hosted by the Mathematical
Association of America, the American Association for the Advancement of Science
and the American Society for Microbiology. It was sponsored by the National Science
Foundation and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
Sally Beisser,
assistant professor of education, will present a paper at the Society for Information
Technology in Teacher Education conference in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 25.
This research, titled "Gender Differences Persist Yet Females Thrive in a
LEGO/LOGO Constructionist Learning Environment," will be presented with two
education undergraduates: Molly Finn and Emily Lynch.
Herb Strentz,
professor of journalism and mass communication, had an article titled "A
Rationale for Openness" published in the January-June 2003 inaugural issue
of Comparative Media Law Journal, which is published in English and Spanish
by a consortium of Mexican universities.
Anglea Battle,
assistant professor of art, had a large-scale drawing accepted into "Border
to Border," a
national drawing competition at the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts
at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. The exhibition runs from
March 3-30.
June Felice Johnson,
associate professor of pharmacy practice, has been appointed to the Hertko Hollow
Children's Diabetes Camp Foundation, which raises funds to help children attend
a summer camp run by Camp Hertko Hollow Inc. in Boone. She coordinates pharmacy
student rotations at camp and is a medical staff volunteer.
The writings of Melissa
Weresh, assistant professor of legal writing at the Law School, have been
noted recently in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. In addition,
an article she wrote on unpublished opinions is cited as one of two sources to
consult in the new edition of the ALWD Citation Manual.
