Mary Mincer Hansen, associate professor of nursing, recently was appointed by Gov. Tom Vilsack as the new director of the Iowa Department of Public Health. Hansen also is a research fellow at the Iowa Department of Public Health and the president of the Iowa Public Health Foundation.
Ramesh Dhussa, assistant professor of geography, recently presented a paper titled "Two Fictional Urban Places in India" at the seventh Asian Urbanization Conference held at University of Georgia at Athens.
Bob Ehrhart, former Drake Relays director, will be inducted into the Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame during an April 24 banquet at the Drake Knapp Center. The Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame, which was established in 1977 with six charter members, now has 70 inductees.
Sally Frank, professor of law, was installed as vice president of the Women of Reform Judaism, District 20, on March 8. District 20 is comprised of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, South Dakota and Kansas. Frank's responsibilities include social-action and religious programming.
Robert Hariman, the Ellis and Nelle Levitt professor of rhetoric, has had his essay titled "Allegory and Democratic Public Culture in the Postmodern Era" published in the current issue of Philosophy and Rhetoric.
Patricia Prijatel, the E.T. Meredith distinguished professor of journalism, was one of four journalism professors nationally to be selected as first-round judges for the National Magazine Awards. This is Prijatel's fifth year with the awards, sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors and held in New York City. They are the premier awards for American magazines.
John Holman, assistant professor of theatre arts, recently received a Merit Achievement Award for scenic design of Drake's production of "The Crucible" at the Region V American College Theatre Festival at the University of Northern Iowa.
James A. Albert, professor of law, received the Leland Forrest Outstanding Professor Award at the 66th Annual Drake Law School Supreme Court Celebration banquet March 8 at the Des Moines Downtown Marriott hotel. Albert was selected by students of the 2003 graduating class for his contribution to quality legal education both in and out of the classroom.
Matthew G. Doré, professor of law, was quoted in the March 17 issue of The National Law Journal. The article about global crossing cites professor Doré as a source regarding professional liability as it intersects with malfeasance by corporate directors and officers.
Sally Beisser, assistant professor of education, has been invited to present a paper at the International Conference on Innovations in Higher Education in Kiev, Ukraine, May 16-19. The paper, "Pedagogical Partnerships: Creating a Collaborative Learning Community between Elementary Education Majors and In-Service Teacher Leaders," resulted from a faculty development grant.
