Patricia Prijatel,
the E.T. Meredith distinguished professor of journalism, recently was quoted in
the German art magazine Workshop on the placement of cover lines on magazine
covers. Among other things, Prijatel said, "It used to be that magazines
were fanned out so that a magazine was covered on its right side by another magazine,
which meant all essential information-logo and cover lines - needed to be on the
left," she explains. "News stands are changing and are showing more
full covers - especially those news stands within bookstores or coffee shops where
magazines are part of the ambience."
