DRAKE TO BE FEATURED ON WHO-TV TOMORROW

Drake University will be featured with several other Iowa colleges on a special WHO-TV program, "College Tour," at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1. The program, created to provide information to prospective college students about various Iowa colleges, will include a 5-minute "mini-program" on Drake. Produced by Drake, the "mini-program" shows Drake students talking about the many advantages of attending Drake University. Check it out at 6:30 tomorrow on Channel 13.

DRAKE PROF'S BOOK SIGNING SET FOR TOMORROW

Todd Fuller, visiting assistant professor of English, will sign copies of his new book, 60 Feet Six Inches: The (Baseball) Life of Mose YellowHorse, from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Borders Books and Music Café, 4100 University Ave., West Des Moines.

In the book, Fuller explores the life of Chief YellowHorse, a Pawnee, Okla., pitcher, who played in the Major Leagues in 1921 and 1922.

An article about the book in Tuesday's Des Moines Register said the funniest story in the book is when "YellowHorse beaned the hated Ty Cobb with a pitch." The article also mentions that the book highlights the racism YellowHorse faced in baseball long before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

Fuller is spending most of the summer in Oklahoma, living among the Pawnees there. He has pledged to devote half of all royalties from book sales to establish an endowment for the Pawnee's higher education.

TWO STUDENTS NAMED TO MVC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE SOFTBALL TEAM

Drake senior Jamie Waterman (Des Moines Dowling) and junior Brook Buchanan (Port Neches, Texas) have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete team.

Waterman, a graphic design major, also had been selected honorable mention on the 2001 MVC Scholar-Athlete team. Waterman hit .234 with two home runs and 18 runs-batted-in. Student-athletes must be starters or important reserves and own a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average.

Buchanan, also a graphic design major, earlier earned first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference playing honors after leading the Bulldogs with a .421 batting average, including a team-high 64 hits, 26 runs scored, 12 doubles, four home runs and 25 runs-batted-in. She also had a team-high .605 slugging percentage and a team high .483 on-base average.

DRAKE NEIGHBORHOOD FARMERS MARKET OPENS WEDNESDAY

The Drake Neighborhood Farmers Market will open for the season at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in the parking lot of First Christian Church, 25th Street and University Avenue. There will be a special visit by Ronald McDonald on opening day as well as a live cooking demonstration by Chef Tag Grandgeorge of the Art House.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO REPRESENT DRAKE AT FESTIVAL

Faculty and staff are invited to join alumni and friends in serving Pepsi beverages and bottled water to thirsty Des Moines Arts Festival goers June 28, 29 and 30.

The Des Moines Arts Festival, ranked 7th among the top arts festivals in the nation, will again be held on the streets and bridges of Des Moines' downtown riverfront. This free three-day celebration of the arts and music will have something for everyone. Last year's festival had record attendance and the organizers are expecting it to grow again this year. With this comes a great need for volunteer support and an excellent opportunity to promote Drake and help the community!
