Mark Vitha,
assistant professor of chemistry, recently had two papers published in the journal
Industrial Engineering Chemistry Research. One article, written with co-author
Peter W. Carr of the University of Minnesota, is titled "The Chemical Meaning
of the Standard Free Energy of Transfer: Use of Van der Waals' Equation of State
to Evaluate the Enthalpic and Entropic Contributions of Free Volume and Attractive
Forces to Chemical Potentials." The second article is titled "Solvent
Strength Parameter and Retention Factor in Pure Water Using UNIFAC-Predicted Activity
Coefficients." Vitha's co-authors on this paper are Carr and Jung Hag Park
and Yun Jung Jung, both of Yeungnam University in Kyongsan, South Korea.
Casey Gradischnig,
associate director of marketing and communications, recently was lauded in a
review in The Des Moines Register for his portrayal of Dr. Thomas Parker
in StageWest Theater Co.'s production of "Bat Boy: The Musical." Colleen
Perch, a senior theatre arts major from Jefferson City, Mo., is a member of
the ensemble. Thea Albert, who has taught theatre courses at Drake, directs
the musical, which continues June 13-15 and 19-22 at the Stoner Studio Theater,
Civic Center of Greater Des Moines.
The May 30 issue of
On Campus contained incorrect information about this year's winners of
awards in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Here is the correct information:
Ron Torry,
associate professor of pharmacology, received the Teacher of the Year Award.
Kim Plake,
assistant professor of social and administrative sciences, received the Mentor
of the Year Award.
Sharon Foust,
assistant professor of pharmacy practice, was named Faculty Preceptor of the Year.
Julie Suitor,
clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice, was named Adjunct Preceptor
of the Year.
Wayne Merkley,
professor of biology, was selected by pharmacy students as the Non-Pharmacy Teacher
of the Year.
