IMPROVEMENTS MADE TO DRAKE WEB SITE

Check out improvements to the
Drake Web site on Monday, June 24. The changes are part of an interim design upgrade that will lead to a complete redevelopment of the site within the next year.

The new front page sports a cleaner design and allows the University to showcase more images of campus life, said Web Editor Missy DeYoung.

Gateway pages have been revamped to provide more current information in a more compact design, she said. These pages also have added local weather information and links to Drake's new comprehensive event calendar at
http://www.drake.edu/newsevents/calendar

In addition to the interim design upgrade, Drake has begun working with Liquid Matrix Co. to build a highly interactive and personalized admission Web site. This project is scheduled to be completed near the end of the fall semester.

DRAKE TO HOST 'THE BIG EVENT' SATURDAY

Des Moines-area residents are invited to attend "The Big Event" at Drake University from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 22, to learn more about a wide range of social services.

"The Big Event" aims to side-step the difficulty Des Moines has in making it easy for people to get services -- from loans to health care, to housing, to jobs -- by bringing many agencies that provide these services together.

These agencies will offer information about health and safety, jobs and workforce, children and youth, education, financial and legal matters and housing. Free medical screenings will be available as well as children's activities and entertainment.

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR ARTS FESTIVAL

Drake still needs five more volunteers to serve beverages at the Des Moines Arts Festival from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, along the riverfront in downtown Des Moines.

Alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students will be serving Pepsi beverages and bottled water all three days of the festival, which begins Friday, June 28.

The volunteers will help create community awareness of Drake as well as receive a free Des Moines Arts Festival T-shirt. Volunteers also will raise money to help support the Drake Central Iowa Alumni Chapter's scholarships and activities.

To obtain more information or to register as a volunteer, contact Kathleen Dooley, assistant director of alumni and parents programs, at x3378 or
